本年度的建造業安全獎勵計劃已在2012年10月16日開始接受報名。

該等宣傳刊物，包括海報及單張已發放到各機構，而有關的資訊亦已在政府新聞公報上公佈。

Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) is organizing a HKQAA Symposium 2012, which will be held on 30 November 2012 (Friday) at Langham Place Hotel, Mongkok. "Collaboration and Cooperation in Contracts for Hong Kong's Expanding Infrastructure"

Enclosed please find a flyer of the Lighthouse Club Construction Conference entitled "Collaboration and Cooperation in Contracts for Hong Kong's Expanding Infrastructure", which will be held on 17 September 2012 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Members are invited to attend the Contractor Forum for Drainage Services Department (DSD)'s Agreement No. CE43/2007(DS) - Yuen Long and Kam Tin Sewerage Treatment Upgrade- Upgrading of San Wai Sewage Treatment Works - Investigation, Design and Construction Which is conducted by AECOM Asia Company Ltd (AECOM) who is engaged by DSD as their consultants to carry out the investigation, design and construction supervision of the upgrading and expansion of San Wai STW works.

優質公共房屋建造及保養維修大獎 2012 接受提名

All practitioners in construction and maintenance services for public housing, as well as public housing residents are welcome to nominate contenders for the Quality Public Housing Construction and Maintenance Awards 2012 jointly organised by the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) with FEMC and other trade associations.

(青年建造探索挑戰賽)

The YCDC is an open competition for secondary school students. It is organized by the Building and Civil Engineering Training Board of the Vocational Training Council, the Construction Industry Council, The Hong Kong Federation of Electrical and Mechanical Contractors and various industry associations and professional bodies in the construction industry.

Accident rate for public works has been improving though less impressive in recent years. Among all Works Departments, EMSD's score is a bit below average thus enhancement on safety measures is being considered. A briefing session is now arranged for members to interact with EMSD on the subject :

Students of CICTA's training courses in Electrical Installation will be graduated in coming August. For the convenience of employers who would like to employ the Graduates, an earlier interview can be arranged by CICTA before graduation.

To encourage employers who employ graduates within 12 months of graduation, have their apprenticeship contracts registered, and provide proper training may apply for a monthly subsidy of $1,800 or $2,000 for each graduate under the "Employers Subsidy Scheme".

Summer is approaching, the Labour Department would like to draw contractors/employers' attention to the risk of heat stroke at the workplace, they have published a leaflet entitled "Checklist for Heat Stress Assessment at Construction Sites" and another leaflet entitled "Prevention of Heat Stroke at Work in a Hot Environment" for employers' reference and take out effective preventive measures.

In addition, FREE health talks on the prevention of heat stroke at work will be organized by the Labour Department in May, June and July 2011. Please refer to the self-explanatory letter as attached for details.

The Labour Department reminds employers to make prior work arrangements for staff in times of typhoons and rainstorms as soon as possible, and they have recently published posters and leaflets on the subject of "Code of Practice in times of Typhoons and Rainstorms" providing advice and practical guidelines for the reference of Employers and employees. Those are available at the Offices of Labour Relations Division for public's collection. Please arrange with Mrs LUI of Labour Dept at 2399 2384 if you want to get copies.

We are pleased to inform you that the Society of Construction Law Hong Kong (SCLHK) will present the third biennial International Construction Law Conference in Hong Kong in December 2010.

The Building (Minor Works) Regulation Cap.123N was passed in 2009 after almost 5 years of consultation with the industry and debate in the LEGCO. Numerous revisions were made during that period in response to input from stakeholders in particular the 'Minor Works Contractors Registration Concern Group' comprising 22 organizations including your Federation being an active member. The implementation date is yet to be determined while training to prepare contractors/individuals for registration is being conducted. Like all new registration exercises, turbulence can be expected in the initial stage.

One common misunderstanding being heard from contractors is - extra restriction on their current practice, which is NOT the case. A workshop is now scheduled on :

to brief members on this Regulation which affects mainly the P&D and HVAC disciplines as far as our E&M trade is concerned. However, all others are welcome.

The Occupational Deafness (Compensation) (Amendment) Ordinance 2010 ("amendment ordinance") 《2010年職業性失聰(補償)(修訂)條例》has been in operation. It brings improvements to the Occupational Deafness Compensation Scheme. A circular of Occupational Deafness Compensation Board enclosed with an introduction and leaflet is attached for your information.

The captioned event is annually held at June in Guangzhou. Our FEMC is one of the supporters of the Exhibition. This year 2010, the exhibition will be held on 9 – 12 June 2010 at the China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex, Guangzhou, China. It is the biggest lighting industry forum in Asia.

As you are aware that the registration for minor works contractors under the new Minor Works Control System commences on 30 December 2009, the Application Forms are available for Contractor companies and individual practitioners to register as minor works contractors of the relevant classes and types by virtue of their work experience, qualification and competence.

Kindly note that hard copies of Application for registration as a registered minor works contractor (company) are provided by Building Department, and are being kept in our FEMC office for members' collection. Please feel free to come and get it.

The Construction Workers Registration Authority (CWRA) has announced that construction workers can now renew their registration through respective trade unions. Please refer to attached Press Release for details.

Employers Subsidy Scheme (資助僱主訓練學徒計劃) has been launched by CICTA (建造業議會訓練學院). It aims to promote long-term employment of the CICTA's graduates and provision of proper training by employers.

To encourage Contractors and Sub-contractors participating this scheme, a monthly subsidy of $1,800 or $2,000 for each graduate would be provided by CICTA.

A "Work Trial Scheme" has been launched by Employment Services Division, Labour Department, which is to enhance the employability of job seekers who have difficulties in finding jobs through one-month (30 days) work trial. Its self-explanatory letter and a leaflet are attached for your reference.
